Co-op Kobe and Mitsubishi Shokuhin begin using Co-op Kobe’s Big Data through TMN Data Hub Service
First Operation based on a Three-Company Partnership Agreement amongst Co-op Kobe, Mitsubishi Foods, and TMN
Transaction Media Networks Co., Ltd. (TMN) has launched the Xinfony DataHub, a data hub service that utilizes big data, to Co-op Kobe.
TMN stores all kinds of Co-op Kobe data such as purchasing information and co-op member information, organizes and processes the data through "Xinfony DataHub", and outputs it in a form that meets its needs. TMN has started operation from two outputs: internal use for Co-op Kobe business operations and external use for Mitsubishi Shokuhin Co. Ltd (Mitsubishi Shokuhin).
Data linkage to Mitsubishi Shokuhin is based on a three-company cooperation agreement signed in 2022 amongst Co-op Kobe, Mitsubishi Foods, and TMN.
Building a Data-Driven Work Environment both Internally and Externally
Co-op Kobe, one of the largest cooperatives in Japan, has established its own economic zone by developing multiple businesses such as brick and mortar stores, home delivery, mutual aid, and electric power, but it has not had a cross-business analysis environment in place, and has faced problems of not being able to fully demonstrate synergies within the group.
To answer these issues, TMN has been working on the use of Co-op Kobe data since 2021. TMN has built a co-op membership base system that integrates member IDs and various data related to them, which was previously managed for each business, such as home delivery and stores. This is combined with the creation of data platform for the use of Co-op Kobe’s big data, including POS data.
Based on these initiatives, TMN has recently began two operations using Co-op Kobe's data.
1.Internal Use: Visualize Usage Status with a Dashboard for Business Operations
TMN provides a dashboard that centrally aggregates and visualizes the usage status of Co-op Kobe's home delivery business, store business, and mutual aid business, and supports data-driven operations in Co-op Kobe's business operations, including not only the strategy and planning departments, but also the sales and management departments.
2.External use: Link Parts of Processed Information for Mitsubishi Shokuhin Use
TMN plans to process some of the data entrusted to us by Co-op Kobe for external use, starting with linkage to Mitsubishi Shokuhin.
Mitsubishi Foods will implement marketing measures at Co-op Kobe based on these data to make the co-op’s business and services more attractive.
What’s Next?
TMN is promoting the transaction platform service business that promotes the use of data as an initiative to contribute to improving the distributors’ profitability, as well as electronic payment services aimed at improving the distributors’ convenience.
TMN will continue to expand the functions of the data platform service "Xinfony DataHub" in response to changes in the business environment and needs of distributors and promote the effective use of big data to create a better consumption environment.
Overview of Initiatives
[Dashboard] Aggregation and Visualization of Cross-Functional Data
By centrally visualizing the usage status of the home delivery business, store business, and mutual aid business, it is now possible to analyze from various angles, such as checking cross and single users, extracting issues for each business, analyzing product purchases, and analyzing associations across home delivery and store channels. TMN can contribute to further improving the convenience of Co-op Kobe and benefiting its members by linking the results of the analysis to measures to differentiate from other companies, improving marketing accuracy, and promoting cross use of each business.
[TMN’s Initiatives to Date]
Phase 1: Co-op Member IDs Consolidation
TMN’s in-house e-cash service and Co-op Kobe's member card function, point function, and original prepaid e-cash function are integrated into one "Coopy Card".
TMN has integrated member IDs, which have been managed separately in each business such as home delivery and stores, to build a co-op member management platform.
Phase 2: Data Platform Construction
Platform is built to safely store data (purchasing data etc.) for use, based on the co-op member management platform.
Phase 3: Data Visualization and Third-Party Collaboration of Processed Data
TMN’s data platform service “Xinfony DataHub” released a dashboard to visualize data as one of its services. Data linking to third parties has also began, answering to needs such as data anonymization processing.
