TMN Payment Service Introducing “SAPICA” Payment and Charging Service to Lawson
Second Example of Local E-Cash Introduced to Lawson, after “Kumamon no IC Card”
Transaction Media Networks Co., Ltd. (TMN) is proud to announce the introduction of “SAPICA” payment service, a Sapporo area local e-cash, to Lawson, Inc. (Lawson). This will enable all Lawson stores in Hokkaido (728 stores: as of the end of August 2025) to pay and charge with “SAPICA”.
Improving Local E-Cash Convenience and Contributing to Regional Revitalization
TMN began providing e-cash and credit card payment services to Lawson nationwide in 2016, and provides services and maintenance 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. In 2023, Lawson introduced a payment service for the Kumamoto Regional Promotion IC Card “Kumamon no IC Card” in the Kumamoto area. “SAPICA” is the second ever case of local IC card accepted as payment by Lawson.
Many areas are now operating their own local e-cash around Japan, but the main challenge in propagating its use is how to expand the places where it can be used and charged. This time, Lawson will be able to accept “SAPICA” payment for everyday shopping as well as charging the e-cash, improving convenience. The widespread use of local e-cash is expected to stimulate payments and lead to regional revitalization.
Implementation without Store-Side Renovation
TMN has built a common system that is versatile for local e-cash by utilizing the skills and technology it has acquired through its support for various payment brands. Regarding the introduction of regional e-cash to Lawson, TMN has only renovated TMN's cloud payment gateway center as an addition to the payment method provided by the existing service and achieved the SAPICA introduction in a way that did not require renovation work at Lawson stores. In addition, “Kumamon no IC Card” and “SAPICA” are supported by a common system, allowing to support other regional e-cash in the potential future.
TMN will continue to create a better payment environment in each region and contribute to regional revitalization.
- “SAPICA” is a registered trademark of Denso Wave Inc.
