5th Square Payment Terminal localized for Japanese Market

TMN has been working as a Japanese market development partner for of Square terminals since 2020 and is currently handling all Square payment terminals that support e-cash. To respond to the widespread use of e-cash in Japan, it is necessary to comply with various standards set by electronic money brands and to cooperate with Japanese local partners. TMN has been a pioneer in cloud-based e-cash services in Japan and has contributed to Square's business expansion in the Japan market.

Square Handheld recently released by Square is a portable terminal that is convenient for payments at table and in event venues. Due to its different form from previous Square terminals, its expectation of e-cash usage scenarios is expected to expand in locations such as restaurants, and TMN’s track record as a domestic partner played roles in TMN selected as Square Handheld’s Japanese market development partner.

According to the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), Japanese market e-cash payment volume in 2024 began to decline YoY, but the amount of e-cash payments processed by TMN center continues to increase steadily at an annual rate of 8%*. In particular, the amount of e-cash payments at Square merchants are also increasing, and Square's ratio of the TMN center’s payment processing is also expanding. This shows that Square merchants still have a high demand to use e-cash.

While TMN mainly provides services to large-scale businesses, Square mainly provides services to SMBs (Small and Medium Businesses) with its strengths in solutions that allow anyone to easily introduce electronic payments. TMN will provide white-label e-cash service to Square to contribute to improving convenience for SMBs and the development of a cashless society.
