TMN’s Mobile Payment Terminal “UT-P10” Adopted by Tokaido Shinkansen’s Mobile Order Service
2nd Case of Electronic Payment Service Provision on a Shinkansen, following Sanyo Shinkansen
Transaction Media Networks, Inc. (TMN) announced that the Tokaido Shinkansen Mobile Order Service operated by JR Central Retailing Plus Co., Ltd. (JR-PLUS) has adopted TMN’s UT-P10 mobile payment terminal and the payment gateway service. As a result, credit cards, e-cash, and QR/barcode payments will be available to pay for snacks and beverages purchased on the Tokaido Shinkansen’s Nozomi and Hikari Green Cars.
Achieving both Service Expansion and Cost Reduction through TMN’s Cloud-based Payment Service
JR-PLUS has shifted its food cart sales to a Mobile Order Service that allows passengers to place orders from their own mobile devices, providing a comfortable in-car experience. However, the challenge was to figure out what kind of service to expand on, in conjunction with the renewal of the payment terminals.
By switching to TMN's cloud-based payment terminals, JR-PLUS have been able to support a wide variety of electronic payments including overseas payment brands at low cost, improving convenience not only for domestic users but also for international visitors to Japan.
Electronic payment needs are becoming more diversified due to the rapid increase in the number of international visitors to Japan, adding to the establishment of a multitude of electronic payment methods. TMN's electronic payment service is a cloud-based service that supports the industry's largest number of electronic payment methods such as credit, e-cash, QR/barcode, and is characterized by its ability to flexibly respond to the addition or change of payment brands without replacing the payment terminals in use even after the payment terminal adoption.
The newly adopted UT-P10 payment terminal is equipped with a receipt printer and a POS application, allowing users to complete accounting operations with a single device.
The UT-P10 has been used not only in retail stores and restaurants, but also in railway cars such as the Sanyo Shinkansen. TMN's scalability of cloud-based services, the convenience of mobile payment terminals, and its extensive track record in railways have been highly rated, leading to its adoption.
