The University of Aizu and TMN Sign a General Partnership Agreement on Data Utilization

Industry-academia collaboration to solve problems on campus

The University of Aizu in Aizuwakamatsu City, Fukushima Prefecture, and Transaction Media Networks, Inc. (TMN) have strengthened their cooperation by signing a general partnership agreement with the aim of developing both parties through initiatives that utilize purchase data in POS systems, various data acquired on campus, and IoT technology.

Background of the collaboration

TMN has been providing POS systems to student cafeterias and shops in the University of Aizu operated by Student Life Support Co., Ltd. (SLS) as a demonstration experiment in cloud POS development and has accumulated a track record in its operation.

TMN have decided to sign a general partnership agreement to broaden the company’s horizons not only to the student cafeteria and shops, but also to the entire campus, and to implement initiatives that contribute to the development of both sides, such as data utilization, development of IoT, and technical support.

What’s Next?

TMN plans to utilize the purchase data obtained from the cloud POS operated in the student cafeteria and kiosks to solve various issues, such as reducing food loss through demand forecasting, reviewing manufacturing plans, and managing inventory.

The future plan is to collect non-purchase data on campus, expand the range of data utilization, and contribute to the creation of an attractive campus so that students can lead a comfortable student life through R&D and technical support in the IoT field, including open innovation with students.
