TMN Obtains Patent for POS Receipt Information’s Purchase Data Conversion into Database

Transaction Media Networks, Inc. (TMN) has obtained a patent for a technology that creates a database of receipt printing information for point-of-sale (POS).

Background to the New Technology Development

Purchase data at retail stores is expected to be used not only for sales management, but also for a wide range of purposes, such as sales promotion, demand forecasting, inventory management, product development, and store opening strategies. Purchase data at retail stores is often stored in a database at the timing of the POS closing process by employees, and it is necessary to transfer such data to another system within the retailer and process the data to utilize the collected data, which has caused speed and flexibility issues in data handling.

In addition, one of the major reasons why the use of data is not progressing sufficiently is the massive amount of cost and time to renovate the store POS system in order to utilize purchase data in other systems used by the retailers. Therefore, TMN has developed a new technology that can be introduced at low cost and in a short period of time, and that promotes the new use of purchase data by acquiring data in real-time and building a highly flexible database.

TMN plans to start providing this patented service for retailers that creates a database of purchase data and aggregates, processes, and visualizes it by the end of FY2023, and aim to provide solutions that utilize visualized data to attract customers and increase sales. TMN believes that the increasing use of purchasing data will enable retailers and manufacturers to provide services and products that are more in line with the needs of consumers, and contribute to the creation of a convenient and comfortable consumption environment.
