Background and Purpose

Kan-etsu Transportation is a bus company that operates public buses and intercity buses centered in Shibukawa City, Gunma Prefecture, and operates 47 routes, which are used by around 6,000 passengers a day. TMN, which promotes electronic payment gateway service and transaction platform services, is working on the development of services that "visualize" information that was previously unseen in cooperation with various IoT devices along with payments service.

The two parties have agreed on an initiative to promote "DX in Buses" and have started an initiative to "visualize" the usage status of buses by installing GPS sensors and IoT cameras on Kanetsu Kotsu's public buses operating in Shibukawa City. .

This initiative grasps and visualizes bus operation information and the usage status of buses, based on information obtained from GPS sensors and IoT cameras. By accurately grasping the actual usage of buses and linking them with various services, it is possible to formulate future regional public transportation plans and improve services, which can lead to the creation of a user-friendly environment for buses.

Details of the Initiative

From April 2023, Kanetsu Kotsu and TMN will install GPS sensors on one of Kanetsu Kotsu's public buses operating in Shibukawa City and will begin "visualizing" data on the operation status of buses (travel times and operating locations). IoT cameras will be installed to "visualize" various data on bus usage, from Fall 2023.

What’s Next?

Kanetsu Kotsu and TMN will continue to collaborate to improve regional public transportation and contribute to the region's sustainable development through data visualization and other means. This initiative is part of a plan based on the partnership agreement with Shibukawa City concluded today. TMN will continue to promote this project in cooperation with related parties.
